Airport International Group, the operator of Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan, reported an 11% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions in 2025, bringing cumulative cuts to over 50% since 2012. The airport maintained its ACA Level 4+ carbon accreditation, the highest in the MENA region, and expanded onsite solar generation and electric vehicle infrastructure. Water recycling reached 88%, and 20,000 trees were planted on site. Beyond carbon, the airport recycled 70 tons of waste and issued an ESG report aligned with GRI standards. The operator also expanded vocational training through its foundation, with 694 graduates since 2019. The airport now sources 81% of suppliers locally and holds ISO 50001 for energy management. These results show how a major transport hub can integrate decarbonization, circular economy, and community investment into daily operations.

11% scope 1 and 2 reduction in a year is decent for an airport. The cumulative 50% since 2012 is the real story though. That takes consistent capital and management buy in.

Agreed. The solar farm and electric fleet are concrete moves. But I want to know the solar capacity and how much of their total load it covers. Press release skips that.

Good point. Also 88% water recycling is impressive for a desert region. But 70 tons of waste recycled seems low for a major airport. Wonder what their total waste stream is.

The ACA Level 4+ is the real signal. That means they are actively managing scope 3 emissions too. Most airports globally are still at level 1 or 2. Jordan is punching above its weight here.

Worth noting the 20,000 trees planted. In a dry climate that is not trivial. But tree survival rates in arid zones are often low. Would like to see survival data after 3 years.
