Qatar Museums has obtained carbon neutrality certification for four of its cultural sites: the National Museum of Qatar, Museum of Islamic Art, Fire Station, and Al Zubarah Fort. The certification follows the ISO 14068-1:2023 standard and covers the 2025 reporting period. Al Zubarah Fort is the first UNESCO World Heritage site in the Middle East to receive this certification. The certification process included greenhouse gas accounting across electricity, water, refrigerants, waste, and visitor and employee commuting. A carbon management plan was developed with the Gulf Organization for Research and Development, covering renewable energy adoption, efficiency measures, and sustainable transport. The remaining emissions were offset using high-integrity carbon credits from recognized programs. Third-party verification was done by Earthood Services Limited.
