Punjab is planning to deploy around 120,000 electric two and three wheelers under the Punjab Clean Air Program, with low interest financing and installment plans aimed at commuters and commercial operators. The proposal also includes charging infrastructure, battery swapping, and battery waste management, and it is being designed with an eye to generating carbon credits under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard. Stakeholders from provincial departments, banks, manufacturers, and consumers met at the Bank of Punjab to shape the project. The main open questions are delivery and verification. The program could cut transport emissions and smog, but the carbon credit revenue and the actual ownership of those credits will determine whether the climate benefit and the financial benefit stay aligned.
