Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the launch of Pakistan's first EPA-certified liquid tree, a bioreactor system that uses microalgae to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Researchers tested over 100 algae species from across Pakistan over seven months, selecting the most effective strain found in Sukkur, Sindh, with support from Government College University Faisalabad. The system includes an AI-powered calculator that provides real-time data on CO2 absorption and oxygen production. The Punjab government plans to install these liquid trees at major shopping malls in the first phase, aiming to reduce urban pollution and smog alongside natural trees. The initiative marks the first EPA certification since 1987.
