Punjab expands Liquid Tree project using microalgae to absorb CO2 in cities

The Punjab government approved expanding its Liquid Tree initiative, a biotechnology system that uses microalgae to absorb carbon dioxide and improve air quality in urban areas where planting trees is difficult. The first EPA-certified unit will move from Faisalabad to Lahore, with over 100 microalgae species collected from across Pakistan. Initial units will go into shopping malls and public spaces. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz called it a practical step against rising carbon emissions and smog. The EPA also demolished 36 fat-melting units this week and pushed plastic bans and green buffer zones around industrial areas. The project is part of a broader tech-driven environmental strategy for Punjab.
