Punjab expands Liquid Tree project using microalgae to absorb CO2 in Lahore and other cities

The Punjab government is expanding its Liquid Tree project, a biotechnology initiative that uses microalgae to absorb carbon dioxide and improve air quality in areas where traditional tree planting is not feasible. The first EPA-certified liquid tree will move from Faisalabad to Lahore, with installations planned in shopping malls and public spaces. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said over 100 types of micro-algae have been collected from across Pakistan for the project. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to tackle urban smog and rising CO2 levels through technology-driven environmental solutions, alongside other EPA actions like banning thin plastic bags and regulating industrial emissions.
