The Punjab government has allocated Rs 36 billion in the 2026-27 budget for the Punjab Climate-Resilient and Low-Carbon Agriculture Mechanization Project. Supported by the Asian Development Bank, this initiative aims to modernize farming through climate-smart machinery, crop residue management, and precision agriculture. It targets 220,000 rural farming households, focusing on reducing crop burning, lowering emissions, and improving water efficiency. The project includes a Mechanization Service Provider model so small farmers can rent equipment instead of buying it. It also funds a Machinery Testing Center and a Speed Breeding Facility to develop climate-resilient crops. Women's economic empowerment is a key component, with training for equipment operation and agribusiness. The project runs through 2031 and aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions while boosting farm productivity.
