Prysmian and Rio Tinto are partnering to supply electrical cables made with low-carbon aluminum for an Amazon data center in Ohio. The aluminum is produced using ELYSIS inert-anode technology, which eliminates direct greenhouse gas emissions from the smelting process and releases oxygen instead. Prysmian says it is the first known use of inert-anode-smelted aluminum in a data center. Prysmian will make the cables at its Sedalia, Missouri facility. The companies first announced their collaboration in March 2026. Amazon Web Services connected the purchase to its 2040 net zero target, and the deal shows how large data center buyers can push low-carbon materials into supply chains through procurement.
