Prysmian and Rio Tinto to supply low-carbon aluminum cables for Amazon data center
globalbankingandfinance.comPrysmian and Rio Tinto have partnered to supply electrical cables made with low-carbon aluminum for an Amazon data center in Ohio. The aluminum uses ELYSIS inert-anode technology, which eliminates direct greenhouse gas emissions from smelting and releases pure oxygen instead. Prysmian will manufacture the cables at its Sedalia, Missouri facility. This is the first known use of inert-anode-smelted aluminum in a data center, according to Prysmian. Amazon Web Services links the project to its 2040 net zero target, highlighting how raw material choices can reduce the carbon footprint of digital infrastructure. The partnership builds on an earlier R&D collaboration announced in March 2026.
