Providence Climate Justice Plan 5 Year Update: Carbon Targets and Community Engagement
providenceri.govThe City of Providence has released a 5 year update to its Climate Justice Plan, originally developed in 2019 by the Racial and Environmental Justice Committee. The plan sets carbon reduction targets for buildings and transportation, promotes clean energy, and focuses resources on frontline communities most affected by environmental challenges. It includes 7 key objectives, over 20 targets, and more than 50 strategies aimed at an equitable, low-carbon future. The update process uses a collaborative governance model that shares decision making with community organizations and historically marginalized residents. The goal is to build trust, clarify community priorities, and ensure resources are allocated where they are needed most. The city is hosting a community kickoff meeting and invites residents to participate in shaping the updated plan.
