The Sherwood Forest Trust has launched an educational project in Mansfield to protect rare heathland habitats from accidental and deliberate fires. These landscapes are critical for biodiversity and serve as important carbon sinks, storing carbon within the soil. When these areas burn, they release stored carbon back into the atmosphere and destroy fragile ecosystems. The initiative aims to reach over 3,000 young people and families by 2028 to increase awareness of fire safety and ecological preservation.
