Proposal to Mandate Carbon Footprint Labeling on Product Packaging in India
timesofindia.indiatimes.comExperts at a recent conference in New Delhi are calling for products to display their carbon footprints on packaging, similar to how nutritional facts and ingredients are listed. The goal is to drive sustainable consumption by making the environmental impact of a purchase visible to the consumer at the point of sale. Recommendations from the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation will be sent to the Prime Minister. The initiative aims to shift consumer habits by highlighting the greenhouse gas emissions associated with different lifestyles and commercial products.
