Prasarana reports 225,000 tonnes of carbon emissions avoided from public transit in 2024/2025
thestar.com.myMalaysian public transport operator Prasarana says its networks helped avoid about 225,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2024 and 2025, based on an average of 1.31 million passenger rides per day. The company estimates that this took roughly 377,000 private vehicles off the roads daily. The figures come from Prasarana's 2024/2025 Sustainability Report, which tracks environmental, social, and governance metrics across its rail and bus operations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, and Kuantan. Prasarana is targeting daily ridership of 1.4 million in 2026 and 1.7 million in 2027. To further cut emissions, the operator plans to expand rail networks, adopt more electric buses, and improve energy efficiency. The company is also studying flood resilience measures for its infrastructure. The report serves as a benchmark for operational gaps and performance monitoring.
