PPG Launches Teslin Envos, a Lower-Carbon Substrate for Secure ID Cards and Passports
biometricupdate.comPPG has introduced Teslin Envos, a synthetic paper made with 30 percent bio-based content for secure ID cards, passports, and RFID labels. The company says the material cuts cradle-to-gate carbon emissions by up to 25 percent compared with its standard Teslin SP1000 substrate, while keeping the same microporous structure that makes it printable and durable. Bio-based content is measured with ASTM D6866, and the carbon footprint comparison follows ISO 14040, 14044, and 14067. According to PPG, Teslin Envos also improves brightness, tear resistance, puncture resistance, tensile strength, and flexibility. It is designed to work with existing printing and finishing processes, so credential makers can switch materials without reworking production lines. The launch targets governments and ID manufacturers looking to reduce the environmental footprint of physical identity documents without sacrificing performance.
