POWERCHINA has completed its first renewable energy project in Peru. The 96.9 MW Wayra Solar Project in Marcona District, Nasca Province, Ica Region reached full-capacity grid connection on September 19, ahead of schedule. The plant uses more than 136,000 photovoltaic modules and 2,345 single-axis tracking brackets, supported by seven 33 kV collector lines and a 220 kV step-up substation. Once fully operating, Wayra is expected to generate around 250 million kWh of electricity each year and avoid about 150,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. That output can serve local demand in the Ica region while displacing grid electricity that would otherwise come from fossil sources. For POWERCHINA, the project is a first step in Peru's new energy market and a reference point for future China-Peru cooperation in solar and other clean power.
