POSCO to Showcase HyREX Hydrogen Steelmaking and Decarbonization Tech at Busan Climate Expo
en.sedaily.comPOSCO Group will showcase its decarbonization technology at the 2026 Climate Industry International Expo in Busan from September 16 to 18. The joint pavilion brings together POSCO, POSCO International, POSCO E&C and POSCO Holdings under the theme 'POSCO Opens the K-GX Ecosystem With Decarbonized Steel.' The main display is HyREX, POSCO's hydrogen-based steelmaking process, which uses hydrogen instead of coal as a reducing agent. The company plans to complete a 300,000 ton demonstration plant in Pohang by 2028 and secure commercial technology by 2030. Other zones cover steel for ESS, data centers and power infrastructure, plus carbon-free energy projects including offshore wind, solar and SMR-related EPC. The pavilion also presents the K-GX ecosystem plan, a public-private project to build a decarbonization cluster in southeastern South Korea around the HyREX demo plant, using nuclear power and water electrolysis for clean hydrogen. The expo is co-hosted by Korea's Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the IEA and the World Bank.
