POSCO Future M has developed mass production technology for silicon anode materials, which offer four times the energy storage capacity of traditional graphite. The company used nano sizing and carbon composite techniques to solve the volume expansion issues that typically cause silicon batteries to degrade. Targeting a 2028 rollout, these materials aim to increase the range and charging speed of premium electric vehicles, humanoid robots, and urban air mobility aircraft. The company is currently verifying quality with international partners and collaborating with solid state battery specialists.
