Ten schools in Portlaoise, Ireland, completed a two year initiative to lower carbon emissions by encouraging students to walk, cycle, and use public transport. The project resulted in a 14% drop in car based school trips and removed approximately 8,614 kilograms of CO2 from the atmosphere. The program combined behavioral changes with infrastructure improvements, such as new cycle routes and expanded bus services. By integrating student feedback into local planning, the town created a scalable model for reducing urban traffic congestion and improving air quality.
