Port of Helsingborg, Sweden's second largest container port, has ordered two Kalmar ERG450 electric reach stackers. The machines lift up to 45 tons and replace diesel units, cutting noise, emissions, and maintenance downtime. Kalmar says the port is the first Swedish operator to order an all-electric reach stacker from the company. Fuel cost volatility is a big reason ports are moving to electric equipment. Diesel prices are hard to budget for, and electric machines offer more predictable operating costs. The order falls under a framework agreement, with the port's CTO saying it is a step toward lower emission terminal operations.
