The Port of Dover cargo terminal has achieved net-zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2, cutting carbon by 98.3% since 2007. Key investments include 1.5MW of on-site solar, switching diesel vessels and machinery to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), and LED lighting upgrades. The remaining emissions are offset through a regenerative farming project at nearby Bank Farm, which focuses on soil health and carbon sequestration. This milestone came 25 years ahead of the UK government's 2050 net-zero target. The port also retained its BRCGS Grade A certification for temperature-controlled storage, which is critical for the fresh produce supply chain. The reductions have been independently verified against ISO 14064:2018 and the GHG Protocol, adding credibility to the claims.
