A shuttered elementary school in Pocheon, South Korea, is being converted into a Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality Education Center. The project aims to repurpose the closed Bojang Elementary School site in Changsu-myeon into a hub for environmental education, hands-on climate experience, and local economic revival. Community meetings are underway to gather input before applying for a Ministry of Education grant. The center is designed to go beyond a simple classroom. Plans include linking the facility with nearby tourist attractions to draw visitors and support local businesses. Pocheon city officials say the goal is to build environmental education infrastructure for future generations while breathing new life into a depopulated rural area. The project is still in the proposal stage and depends on winning a government competition.
