Planetary Facts Dashboard measures environmental footprint beyond carbon in New Zealand
businessdesk.co.nzA new online tool called the Planetary Facts Dashboard has launched in New Zealand, created by the non-profit Planetary Accounting Network. Instead of only tracking carbon emissions, the dashboard measures environmental impact across multiple planetary boundaries, including land use, freshwater use, and biodiversity loss. The tool was developed with support from the Clare Foundation and is based on the planetary boundaries framework from the Stockholm Resilience Centre. The dashboard aims to give users a broader view of their environmental footprint. For example, it shows that a small chocolate bar can have a greater planetary impact than a short car trip. This kind of multi metric approach could help businesses and individuals make more informed decisions about consumption and supply chains. It also highlights how carbon only tools may miss other critical environmental pressures.
