Planet Labs is partnering with Carbon Mapper and JPL to develop a specialized version of the Tanager spacecraft. This new satellite will focus exclusively on shortwave infrared light to detect methane and trace gases with significantly higher sensitivity and coverage. The new architecture aims to expand the imagery swath to 100km while maintaining a 30 meter resolution. This increase in area coverage will improve the ability to pinpoint methane leaks and monitor environmental impacts in real time.
