Ghana's Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has warned that adopting global energy transition policies without tailoring them to local conditions could damage the country's petroleum industry. PIAC Technical Director Mark Agyemang said a one-size-fits-all approach ignores differences in development levels, energy demand, and fossil fuel dependence across countries. Agyemang argued that Ghana should coordinate with other regional oil producers to develop strategies that protect their economies while still responding to global climate policy. He said regional cooperation would strengthen Ghana's negotiating position in international climate talks and help ensure that the transition to cleaner energy does not come at the expense of economic development. The comments came during a lecture for the Africa Extractive Media Fellowship.
