Pi Green Innovations has commissioned a carbon capture and mineralization pilot at GMR Warora Energy Limited in Maharashtra, marking India's first operational CCUS unit based on mineral carbonation. The Net Zero Machine can capture 2 to 10 tonnes of CO2 per day and converts it into solid material using fly ash, producing a slurry that can be sold for construction use. The unit also aims to generate carbon credits under India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, with a methodology submitted to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The project targets hard-to-abate sectors like steel and cement, and the company plans to scale the technology to 1,000 tonnes per day. This pilot is a step toward commercializing mineral carbonation for industrial decarbonization in India.
