Pi Green Commissions 10 TPD Carbon Capture Pilot at GMR Warora Using Mineral Carbonation
energetica-india.netPi Green Innovations has commissioned a 10 tonne per day (TPD) carbon capture pilot at GMR Warora Energy's plant in Maharashtra, India. The Net Zero Machine (NZM) uses mineral carbonation to react CO2 with fly ash, turning emissions into solid materials for construction. This is India's first operational carbon capture unit based on this approach. The pilot produces two revenue streams: saleable solid byproducts and carbon credits for the voluntary market. It also includes closed-loop water recycling and zero liquid discharge. Pi Green has submitted its methodology to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency for registration under India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), which currently covers over 700 entities after the June 2026 draft notification. The system is designed to scale to 1,000 TPD and targets hard-to-abate sectors like steel, cement, and chlor-alkali. If the pilot performs as claimed, it could offer a practical model for industrial CO2 capture that avoids the energy penalty of conventional amine-based systems.
