A spinoff from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Photreon, has created a photoreactor panel that produces hydrogen directly from sunlight and water. By using photocatalysis, the system eliminates the need for separate photovoltaic panels and electrolyzers, reducing the overall complexity of green hydrogen production. The modular panels are designed for mass production using low cost materials. This technology targets industrial sites in sunny regions or remote areas where grid connection and hydrogen transport infrastructure are unavailable or too expensive.
