Philippines and Japan collaborate to improve corporate GHG reporting and emissions data

The Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Japan's Ministry of the Environment signed a Letter of Intent on May 28 to advance corporate greenhouse gas measurement and reporting. The partnership aims to build a unified data system for emissions data, which is becoming critical for investment decisions and trade competitiveness. The collaboration focuses on three areas: refining GHG calculation tools, providing capacity building for the private sector through nationwide seminars, and developing a digital platform for emissions reporting. The initiative builds on a previous transparency partnership that started in 2020 and has already produced a facility-level GHG calculation tool for waste and industrial process sectors. For Philippine industries, improving emissions data quality is both an environmental and economic necessity. Better data supports national climate policy and helps local companies maintain competitiveness as global markets increasingly require verifiable climate disclosures.
