New data from the Philippine Statistics Authority shows the country's tourism sector reduced water consumption by 5.7 percent in 2025, but energy use and carbon emissions both increased. Water use fell to 208.74 million cubic meters, while energy consumption rose 0.6 percent to 7,532.16 kilotonnes of oil equivalent. Carbon dioxide emissions from tourism reached 10,587.14 gigagrams, up 3.9 percent from the previous year. Transport services drove most of the increase, accounting for 40.9 percent of energy use and 70.6 percent of CO2 emissions. Accommodation services remained the largest water consumer at 42.6 percent of the total. The data comes from the PSA's Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism satellite account, which tracks environmental, economic, and social impacts to inform policy on sustainable tourism development.
