The Philippine Department of Energy has formalized a Task Force on Energy Carbon Credits (TFECC) to manage the country's carbon credit programs in the energy sector. The task force will set guidelines, approve methodologies, and lead inter-agency talks on carbon markets and international carbon transfer mechanisms. This follows a 2025 regulatory framework for monitoring carbon credits. Eligible projects under the framework include early retirement of coal plants, expansion of renewable energy, adoption of energy-efficient technologies, increased biofuel blending, and electric vehicle transitions. Each carbon credit certificate represents one ton of CO2 equivalent reduced or removed. The Philippines has committed to a 75% emissions reduction by 2030 under the Paris Agreement.
