Petros and Höegh Evi sign JDA for Kuching LNG terminal, first gas targeted by 2029
theedgemalaysia.comPetroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) and Höegh Evi have signed a joint development agreement for the Kuching LNG terminal, a regasification project that will supply natural gas to Kuching and surrounding areas. The facility is part of the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub and is expected to be Sarawak's first LNG regasification terminal, with first gas targeted by the end of 2029. Under the agreement, the partners will develop, own and operate a floating storage and regasification unit, mooring infrastructure, subsea and onshore pipelines, and onshore receiving facilities. Petros acts as master developer for the hub, while Höegh Evi contributes FSRU and maritime energy infrastructure experience. The terminal is designed to support power generation and could later add small-scale LNG distribution, truck loading, bunkering, storage and reload services. Those options would let the facility supply gas beyond Kuching and adapt as Sarawak's energy demand grows.
