Petrobras tests Cardano tokens to prevent carbon double-counting in sustainable aviation fuel
cryptoslate.comPetrobras, Brazil's state-controlled energy company, is working with the Cardano Foundation and PUC-Rio to test a system that tracks sustainable aviation fuel benefits and stops the same environmental claim from being used twice. The project uses CS-SAF tokens on Cardano to represent SAF environmental attributes. Tokens can be transferred and retired, and retirement keeps a claim from being counted again. The metadata is aligned with CORSIA, the international aviation emissions scheme. The same R&D collaboration also proposes a Diesel R model that would put checkpoints across production, transport, and use to build a fuel lifecycle record for Scope 3 reporting. The article notes that commercial use is still unquantified, with no transaction volumes or revenue figures disclosed. That makes the announcement a useful proof of concept rather than evidence of large-scale adoption.
