Petrobras Tests Cardano Blockchain to Track Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Renewable Diesel
cryptonews.netPetrobras is testing Cardano's blockchain to track lower-carbon fuel claims in two research projects announced by the Cardano Foundation on Sept. 30. One project covers sustainable aviation fuel through a platform called CS-SAF, built with PUC-Rio's Ledger Labs. The other covers Diesel R, Petrobras' renewable diesel made partly from vegetable oils and animal fats. The aviation project tokenizes SAF attributes on Cardano with metadata aligned to CORSIA, so each emissions claim can be minted, transferred, and retired only once. That directly targets double counting under book-and-claim models, where airlines buy environmental benefits even if the physical fuel is burned elsewhere. The diesel project records production, transport, and use data, which could help companies report Scope 3 emissions. Both projects are still research work. The announcement did not disclose fuel volumes or a timeline for wider deployment. The value here is provenance and auditability, not the fuel chemistry itself.
