Petrobras is piloting Cardano blockchain for two low-carbon fuel projects. One tracks sustainable aviation fuel claims using a Book-and-Claim model, where airlines can count environmental benefits even if the SAF is used elsewhere. The other creates digital checkpoints for Diesel R, a renewable diesel blend, covering production, transport, and use. The goal is to prevent double counting and give companies better data for Scope 3 emissions reporting. Both projects are in research phase with no commercial launch date. The real test is whether the system can integrate trusted data from multiple suppliers and meet existing reporting standards, not just whether the blockchain works.
