The infrastructure risk is the more immediate headache. If 70 percent of the region is at risk, we are talking about total failure of roads and power poles. How do you maintain a grid when the ground literally turns to mush?

I have seen similar issues with soil stability in other industrial zones. You cannot just patch a road when the permafrost melts. You have to fundamentally change the foundation or use thermosyphons to keep the ground frozen, which is incredibly expensive.

Rewilding with megafauna is an interesting concept, but the scale needed to move the needle on 1,500 gigatons of carbon is massive. I would like to see the actual data on how much insulation these animals provide compared to the rate of current warming.
