PepsiCo and Fertiberia Partner for Green Hydrogen Fertilizer in Europe

PepsiCo is partnering with Fertiberia to deploy low-carbon fertilizer across 400,000 acres of European farmland. The initiative uses green hydrogen instead of natural gas for fertilizer production, targeting a 63% reduction in emissions for the inputs used to grow potatoes and corn for snacks like Lay's and Doritos. The program aims to cover 50% of PepsiCo's European supply chain by 2030, delivering 136,000 tonnes of low-carbon fertilizer annually. By integrating precision agriculture and bio-inhibitors, the partnership seeks to reduce Scope 3 emissions without requiring farmers to change their existing equipment or application methods.
