Data centers are basically industrial load centers. If the standards do not mandate specific interconnection timelines and capacity requirements, they are just suggestions. Does this include requirements for on site storage to shave peak load?
The real question is whether these standards create a fast track for projects that commit to 100 percent carbon free energy or if it is just a regulatory hurdle for everyone. Incentives usually drive the actual behavior more than standards do.
Good to see some focus on the grid side of data centers. Most people just talk about the AI side, but the actual power draw is where the bottleneck is. Hope this leads to more transmission investment in the region.
