Peel Ports Urges Smarter Construction Materials Supply to Cut Costs and Carbon Before UK Budget
constructionmaguk.co.ukPeel Ports Group, the UK's second largest port operator, is calling for better coordination of construction materials ahead of the October Budget. It wants deep-water consolidation hubs to move aggregates, cement and other materials by sea rather than road, cutting congestion, cost and emissions. The company warns that major projects like Sizewell C, the Lower Thames Crossing and the council housing programme are at risk from bottlenecks, skills shortages and falling construction output. The push is backed by Ecocem and Mibau Stema through the Sustainable Construction Partners programme. Ecocem says proven low-carbon cement technologies are ready to scale, while Mibau Stema points to self-discharging vessels already moving aggregates through deep-water terminals. The group plans to publish full supply chain research in early 2027.
