Peak Cluster Pipewalk: Wirral community walk against CO2 pipeline set for September 27
wirralglobe.co.ukAction Against CCS has confirmed the 'Pipewalk' community relay opposing the Peak Cluster carbon capture pipeline will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The Wirral section runs from Heswall to Leasowe Lighthouse and follows the proposed route shown in Peak Cluster documents, even though the exact pipeline corridor is not yet fixed. The event was moved from July to allow organisers to secure permissions and make it safer and more accessible. Peak Cluster is a proposed CCS project that would capture around 3 million tonnes of CO2 per year from four cement and lime production sites in Derbyshire and Staffordshire, then pipe it to depleted gas fields under Morecambe Bay. A compression facility of up to 15 metres high, plus a vent stack of up to 50 metres, could be built on Moreton foreshore, which has drawn additional opposition in Wirral. The walk is family-friendly and uses roads, pavements and public rights of way where possible. Participants can join or leave at designated points, with parking, water and collection points planned at each stage. The organisers advise checking the latest arrangements before travelling.
