A Staffordshire farming couple say the proposed Peak Cluster carbon dioxide pipeline could run within 40 feet of their home near Leek. Julie Potter and James Bishop have lived on the farm for 15 years and were told in December 2025 that the route could cross their driveway. They say the project could disrupt their lives for seven years and that communication from the developers has been poor. The Peak Cluster scheme is a joint project by four cement firms. It would build a 200km pipeline to carry CO2 from cement factories in Derbyshire and Staffordshire to storage sites under the Irish Sea. The developers say it could prevent three million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year and argue carbon capture is the only realistic way to decarbonise cement production. Four councils have formally opposed the pipeline, and a consultation on the revised route is planned for November.
