The Peak Cluster project aims to reduce industrial emissions by capturing carbon dioxide from cement production in the Peak District and transporting it for storage in depleted gas fields off the Morecambe coast. The £5bn initiative may include a compression facility in the Wirral and links to the Tranmere oil terminal for CO2 imports. Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram has indicated that decisions on the project's progression will be made in coordination with local Wirral leaders to ensure the infrastructure is handled carefully.
