Peak Cluster carbon capture pipeline route changes in Derbyshire reduce length and corridor width
derbyshiretimes.co.ukDevelopers of the Peak Cluster carbon capture scheme have revised the proposed pipeline route through Derbyshire, cutting the overall length and narrowing the corridor from 300 metres to about 100 metres in most areas. The changes follow engineering assessments and feedback from a consultation that drew over 5,500 responses, including opposition from Derbyshire County Council. The project aims to capture CO2 from four cement and lime plants and transport it to storage beneath the Irish Sea. Peak Cluster says the updates avoid terrain challenges near Dove Holes and Chapel-en-le-Frith, and remove a planned above-ground installation. Public consultations on the revised route will run in November for Staffordshire, Derbyshire, and Cheshire, and in January for the Wirral. The project is still in pre-application stage, with a Development Consent Order submission planned for 2027. The government has committed £28.6 million toward the estimated £59.6 million cost.
