Peak Cluster carbon capture pipeline consultation: updated route through Cheshire open for feedback
macclesfield.nub.newsPeak Cluster, a carbon capture and storage project for four cement and lime plants in Derbyshire and Staffordshire, has opened a new consultation on its proposed pipeline route. The underground CO2 line would run roughly 120 to 125 miles through Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Wirral before heading offshore for storage under the Irish Sea. Organizers say technical surveys and earlier feedback led them to adjust about 15 percent of the route and narrow the construction corridor from 300 meters to 100 meters in most areas. The consultation starts 12 November and includes public events and webinars in Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Wirral. Feedback will also cover above ground installations, block valve stations and temporary construction areas. The project is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, so the final decision sits with the Secretary of State, not local councils. Cheshire West and Chester Council has formally opposed the pipeline, and Chester Zoo has raised habitat concerns. People along the route can submit views through the Peak Cluster consultation website.
