Radbrook Primary School in Shrewsbury has developed a sensory garden for students with special educational needs. The project utilizes PAS100-certified compost donated by Carbon Earth and Agripost, showcasing the practical application of recycled organic waste in community projects. By converting local food and green waste into high-quality soil enhancers, the initiative demonstrates a circular economy approach to waste management. This process reduces landfill reliance and supports local biodiversity through sustainable gardening practices.

Good to see PAS100 standards being used here. It means the compost actually meets quality specs for contaminants and maturity rather than just being random backyard waste.

The certification is the key part. Without those standards, scaling organic waste diversion is a nightmare because of contamination risks. This is a small example of the broader infrastructure needed for bio-waste policy to actually work.

Local sourcing is the only way this makes sense. Hauling heavy compost across the country kills any carbon benefit you get from the composting process itself.
