Pakistan's government has set a target of 2.2 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030, as outlined in the New Energy Vehicle Policy 2025-30. The plan includes subsidies of Rs. 80,000 per electric motorcycle, with Rs. 9 billion allocated for two and three wheelers. Officials say the shift could save 2.07 billion litres of fuel annually and cut carbon emissions by 4.5 million tonnes. Over 12,800 EVs and 160,000 electric motorcycles have already been manufactured in the country. The policy also aims for 30% of new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030 and calls for 3,000 charging stations nationwide. Battery swapping facilities and updated building codes for EV charging points are part of the plan. The government estimates the transition could save around $1 billion in foreign exchange each year. Continued policy support and private investment will be critical to hitting these targets.
