Pakistan's forests generate ecosystem services valued at 11.48% of the country's GDP, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26. These benefits include carbon sequestration, watershed protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate regulation. Despite this, forests cover only 4.7% of Pakistan's land area and lose about 11,000 hectares each year to deforestation. The survey highlights that forests support rural livelihoods, reduce flood severity, and help meet national climate goals. Government programs like the Green Pakistan Programme aim to increase forest cover and restore degraded landscapes. While the forestry sector directly contributes only 0.5% to GDP, the broader ecosystem value is far higher, making forest preservation a key part of climate adaptation and economic planning.
