Pakistan's government has increased re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) prices by nearly 15% for SNGPL and over 16% for SSGC, effective June 2026. The new rates are $19.52 per MMBTU for SNGPL and $18.63 per MMBTU for SSGC, up from $16.98 and $16.04 respectively in May. The move comes alongside adjustments to petroleum levies on petrol and diesel, with the carbon levy held steady at Rs5 per litre. Higher RLNG prices will raise costs for industrial and power sector consumers who rely on imported gas. This could shift dispatch economics for gas-fired plants and put pressure on industries already facing high energy costs. The unchanged carbon levy suggests the government is not using the price mechanism to drive fuel switching, despite rising RLNG costs. For carbon market watchers, the key question is whether these price signals will accelerate investment in domestic renewables or simply compress industrial margins.
