Calling it a carbon tax at Rs5 per litre is generous. At current petrol prices that is roughly 1.3% of the pump price, too small to shift demand. If the goal is real decarbonization, the price signal needs to be much stronger and paired with alternatives, not buried inside a relief scheme.
