Paebbl Rebond 300: World's first carbon-negative building material traps CO2 in walls for centuries
interestingengineering.comDutch company Paebbl launched Rebond 300, a carbon-negative construction material that locks away CO2 via accelerated mineralization. It replaces up to 30 percent of Portland cement in standard concrete mixes without requiring new equipment. Each tonne of Rebond 300 has a verified carbon footprint of -149 kg CO2, and at typical replacement ratios it cuts a structure's embodied carbon by up to 40 percent. The material also offers a near-white finish, making it suitable for exposed architectural surfaces. Paebbl has already partnered with Holcim and Heijmans to test the material in real projects. A 420-square-meter industrial floor slab poured in Germany met full strength specs on schedule. If scaled, this technology could turn buildings into permanent carbon sinks and help solve the cement industry's process emissions problem, which persists regardless of grid decarbonization.
