Transition Industries and Mexico's National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) have launched a joint funding scheme to protect 600 hectares of wetlands in Sinaloa. This initiative uses an Environmental Services Payment model to provide economic incentives for local communities to maintain critical ecosystems that sequester carbon and protect biodiversity. The conservation effort is part of the broader Pacifico Mexinol project, a 3.3 billion dollar net-zero methanol facility. By exceeding legal reforestation requirements and utilizing municipal wastewater for industrial processes, the project aims to meet international biodiversity net gain standards.
